Teach you how to make a unique ceiling fan in 10 steps
In the last article, we wrote about how you can DIY a ceiling fan at home to match the style of your home, and we're going to give you ten steps to complete to get a "brand new" ceiling fan.
1. Prepare the necessary tools
Firstly, you will need to prepare some supplies to paint your ceiling fan, including but not limited to a screwdriver, gloves, scrap paper, wipe clean sponge, sandpaper, soap, enamel primer, and enamel spray paint.
2. Remove ceiling fan
For safety and control, the ceiling fan needs to be removed from the ceiling.
3. Removing the fan blades
After removing the ceiling fan, you can proceed to remove the ceiling fan blades from the main body of the ceiling fan. These blades can be placed on scrap paper to continue with the following steps. If you only wish to colour the fan blades, you can proceed directly to step 5.
4. Remove the main body of the ceiling fan
If you have a ceiling fan with a light fixture, you can start by removing the light fixture and work your way up to the ceiling fan motor one step at a time.
5. Sanding of components
All the surfaces of the ceiling fan to be painted need to be sanded. After dismantling the fan and placing the components neatly on the waste paper, you can start sanding. To do this, you will need to use sandpaper. By sanding the ceiling fan assembly, you can remove dirt, dust and old paint from the surface.
6. Cleaning ceiling fan components
After sanding the ceiling fan parts, it is time to clean them. Soap, detergent and water can be used to remove the dirt from the surface of the ceiling fan parts, while keeping the surface dry.
7. Paint the primer
Once the ceiling fan has been cleaned and dried, you can start applying the primer. It is a good idea to wear gloves at this time to protect your palms. Using a spray can of primer, a thin, even coat of primer can be applied first. Before applying each coat of primer make sure that the previous paint is dry.
8. Graffiti your ceiling fan
When spraying, your spray must be kept at least 6 inches away from the fan assembly. Sweep left and right to ensure an even coat of paint. It is best to apply two coats of paint to ensurecolouring.
9. Inspection of paint coatings
If you are not satisfied with the paint, you can continue with the steps above and add additional coats.
10. Re-installation of ceiling fan
Once the ceiling fan components are completely dry, reassemble them and install them to the ceiling to complete the DIY operation of the ceiling fan.
