Why is the Type A plug obsolete

From the perspective of international standards, Type A plugs and sockets are very unsafe in use.

Type A plugs have two polarized pins, and in early designs did not include a grounding terminal to achieve true insulation, while the risk of electric shock is higher than other types of outlets because Type A outlets are not recessed forms. It has been banned from use in U.S. buildings since 1965.

Standard U.S. power plugs, before the plug is fully inserted into the wall, 120V current may flow through the pins, because the plug is not grounded, if the load is too large, the current will also pass through it, bringing the risk of electric shock while also damaging electrical wiring.

Why type A plug obsolete

The biggest difference between the U.S. and British plugs is that the two countries use different power distribution standards, the United States uses 120V, the United Kingdom uses 240V.

The above picture is the British plug, it has insulators on the pins, which can ensure the safety of the current before inserting; there is a fuse inside the plug, if the plug current flow is too large, the fuse will automatically blow to avoid accidents; finally it has a grounding pin, which can direct the current to the ground. The triple safety protection to ensure the safety of the process of using electrical appliances.

So now the A-type plug is used far less frequently than other types of plugs.
