How to oil the ceiling fans of different styles?
Most ceiling fans require new lubrication after a period of use. Running the fan without oil can cause irritating noise and damage to the motor, so luboil is required.
It is important to note that the method of adding oil differs for different styles of ceiling fan. Here we use the presence or absence of an oil cup as a distinction:
I. Ceiling fan with oil cup
For ceiling fans with oil cup style, there is an oil cup inside the ceiling fan, the same function as the oil sump of a car, mainly to store the oil role, in the oil cup with the right amount of lubricant, in the ceiling fan operation of the lubricant will be slowly spread from the oil cup to the internal system of the ceiling fan.
Step 1 - Find the oil cup hole
The oil holes come in two forms, the difference being the location, one located on the side below the blades and one on the ceiling fan motor housing (shown below). The oil holes can be found in these two places.
Step 2 - Check the oil level in the oil cup
A low oil level in the oil cup will affect the operating condition of the ceiling fan; a high oil level in the oil cup will overflow and cause unnecessary problems. Therefore check the remaining oil level in the oil cup before adding oil.
Step 3 - Add oil to the oil cup hole
Add oil in batches, a few drops at a time into the oil hole. This slow addition of oil will allow the oil to penetrate the system.
II. Modern ceiling fans
Although the new ceiling fans are designed without oil cups to avoid overflowing oil and blocked oil pipes, they are more complicated to operate than the models with oil cups.
Step 1 - Disconnect the wiring, remove the blades and remove the motor housing
Firstly the ceiling fan needs to be taken apart, the first step is to disconnect the power supply, double check to ensure that it is disconnected and then remove the ceiling fan from the ceiling.
The next step is to remove the ceiling fan blades and then use a screwdriver to remove the motor housing so that the bearings underneath can be opened.
Step 2 - Remove the dust
A deep clean of the dust in the ceiling fan motor before adding oil will allow the fan to run more effectively.
Step 3 - Oil the bearings
Using a small dispenser or dropper, add drops of oil to the bearings. Turn the motor by hand after each addition to allow the oil to penetrate and adhere to the bearings.
